Poetry | Your Own Commander

Your Own Commander

by Nathalie Markoch

something we could call self-importance
won't let us free ourselves from chains
'cause ancient hatred full of anger
still keeps struggling from within

grab some questions, or make some up
willing nonsense to step in
'cause acting like you know it all
blocks all knowledge to be seen

lack of comprehension, empathy and self-esteem
the Source of rotten human preachers
would they ever see what's wrong?
would the rest of us stand strong?

you are your own guideline
you draw your path in life
why let others take the lead?
why please them while keeping silence?

fake intentions, that's all I saw
cruel inventions of facts untold
let us be what we want to be
be your own commander
