"The Fraud" (Original Song) New Promo Shoot by Andrea Lavezzaro

ESPAÑOL: Les quiero mostrar las nuevas fotos promocionales de mi disco "Influences & Connections Vol. 1" realizadas por la fotógrafa brasilera Andrea Lavezzaro. Ella trabaja independientemente y a la vez es fotógrafa de la comunidad online Suicide Girls. Vino a Perú desde Alemania (en dónde radica desde hace varios años) por su deseo de conocer la capital y Cusco y fue genial poder mostrarle mis lugares favoritos de la ciudad! Claro que nos faltó tiempo para poder mostrarle todo lo que hubiera querido, pero me contento de que se haya llevado una buena impresión de nuestro país! Me encantó poder hacer una nueva sesión de fotos con ella, siendo también mujer, entiende mi intención de expresar cosas distintas. Siempre he pensado que mi música va de la mano con el arte que rodea la misma, por lo que me gustó cuando vi los resultados! 

Se que aún no revelo mis canciones propias y sólo he publicado adelanto de los covers a canciones de bandas muy influyentes en mi manera de componer y de cantar, pero ya no falta casi nada para poder lanzar mi propia música. Por lo pronto, en mi 1er album estará incluida "The Fraud", canción que compuse especialmente para este primer material de estudio. Si bien los covers que incluyo en mi disco son bastante variados - de melodic death metal, heavy metal, symphonic power metal hasta grunge o rock ambiental - debo de reconocer que mis canciones propias son una mezcla de todas mis influencias, incluyendo las que faltan en este disco como el death/black/thrash metal. No es que haga guturales (aunque me encantaría!), sino he encontrado que en general, son mis géneros favoritos y con los que más me identifico.

Algunos me preguntan "Nathalie, sólo has mostrado covers... deberías componer tus propias canciones". Quisiera aclarar que yo sí tengo composiciones propias, pero no he tenido la oportunidad de grabar y publicar mi música como se debe, es decir... en la mejor calidad posible y de la mano con todo un concepto previamente elaborado, hasta este momento. "The Fraud" será la primera de mis composiciones originales que saldrá a la luz oficialmente en mi disco debut, luego de eso mi plan es presentar un disco sólo con mis composiciones propias, muy aparte de mi trabajo en HYPNOX. Por lo pronto iré presentando algunas de mis composiones en vivo junto a los covers incluidos en "Influences & Connections. Vol. 1".

ENGLISH: I want to show you the new promo pics for my album "Influences & Connections Vol. 1" by brazilean photographer Andrea Lavezzaro. She works as a freelancer as well as for the online community  Suicide Girls.  She came to Peru from Germany (where she lives for some years now) due to her desire of visiting our capital + Cusco and it was really great to be able to show here almost all my favourite places in Lima. I would have loved to have plenty of time to show her everything, but I´m proud she actually loved this country! It was awesome to have the chance to do a new photoshoot with her and because she´s also a woman, she understands my intention to express different feelings and sensations. I´ve always thought that my music goes along with the art that surrounds it, that´s why I loved so much the results!

I know I haven´t revealed any original songs yet and that I´ve only published some pre-mixes (only previews) of covers by bands that have influenced my way of writing music and singing, so the time has almost come to launch my own music. Meanwhile, I will include in my 1st album an original song entitled "The Fraud", which I composed specially for this first studio material. The 14 cover songs belong to various music genres - from melodic death metal, heavy metal, symphonic power metal ´till grunge or ambient rock - and I must recognize that my own songs are a mixture of these influences plus death/black/thrash metal. It´s not that I growl or grunt (though I would love to!), but I´ve come to the point where I know which are the main genres that match my own forms of musical expression.

Some of you have asked me "Nathalie, you´ve only published cover songs... you should be composing your own songs". I would like to make clear that I do have original songs, but I haven´t had the opportunity to record and publish my music the way I want to do it (I mean.. to do it in the best quality possible and along with a whole concept previously conceived) until now. "The Fraud" will be first of my compositions that will be officially launched on my debut album, afterwards the idea is to release a second album with only original tracks, apart of my work with HYPNOX. Meanwhile I will be playing live my original songs as well as the covers included in "Influences & Connections. Vol. 1".

Influences & Connections Vol. 1 - Sneak Peek DREAMING LIGHT by ANATHEMA

ESPAÑOL: Ya voy llegando al final de esta etapa, la de publicar videos adelanto de las canciones que han sido grabadas para incluirlas en mi disco debut como solista titulado INFLUENCES & CONNECTIONS VOL. 1. En esta ocasión quería mostrarles un extracto de lo que será mi versión completa de DREAMING LIGHT, original de la banda inglesa de rock progresivo ANATHEMA. 

Como muchos de ustedes saben, ANATHEMA comenzó haciendo doom/death metal con su primer EP "ILLIAD OF WOES", pero a lo largo del tiempo, su género musical cambió hasta ahora ser un rock atmosférico/progresivo tal cuál lo escuchamos en su último disco "WE'RE HERE BECAUSE WE'RE HERE", del cuál proviene DREAMING LIGHT. Debo de reconocer que a penas escuché este disco, no podía dejar de pensar en el y en todos los temas que me venían a la mente al escuchar estas canciones. Es impresionante cómo la música puede hacer que reflexiones profundamente acerca de lo que has pasado, lo que estás viviendo y lo que quisieras experimentar. 

Yo pensaba que el grabar las voces limpias y las armonías de esta canción me iba a ser relativamente fácil, teniendo en cuenta de que es una balada y que las notas en sí no son ni muy graves ni muy agudas como para pensar que me darían un dolor de cabeza poder llegar a ellas, pero me di con la sorpresa de que este ha sido uno de los tracks más complicados en lograr! Transmitir lo que uno siente es aún más difícil que emitir una sola nota de la manera correcta. Felizmente, y después de algunos intentos, puedo mostrarles un pasaje de lo que será la canción completa lml!

La grabación de este video fue algo totalmente distinto para mi, el sólo hecho de ir a esta locación ya es algo fuera de lo común, jajaja! Quise incluir tomas así, justamente por el trasfondo de lo que significa DREAMING LIGHT para mi. Gracias a Rafael Nunez por la dirección, grabación y edición del video, no sólo en esta ocasión, sino en todos los videos desde el inicio! Espero que les guste el resultado :) Que tengan un excelente comienzo de semana!

ENGLISH: I'm reaching the end of this first stage of publishing the video teasers of the songs that will be included on my debut album as a solo artist entitled "INFLUENCES & CONNECTIONS VOL. 1". This time I would like to show you a sneak peak on what's gonna be my complete version of DREAMING LIGHT by the english progressive rock band ANATHEMA.

Like many of you already know, ANATHEMA started with a doom/death metal sound with their first EP "ILLIAD OF WOES", but throughout their music career, they changed their musical genre to a atmospheric/progressive rock, just like their last album "WE'RE HERE BECAUSE WE'RE HERE" sounds like, from which DREAMING LIGHT belongs. I have to admit thar as soon as I listened to these songs, I just couldn't stop thinking about them and all the memories and feelings I recalled while listening to this masterpiece. It's amazing how music makes you reflect on what you've been through, what your're experimenting right now and what you would like to live in the future. 

I thought that recording the clean vocals and harmonizations would be relatively easy, having in mind that it's a ballad and that the tone is not too low, nor too high for me, but then I realised that this track has been one of the most complicated ones for me to complete recording! Transmit what one's feeling is much harder than reaching a perfect pitch. Luckily and after attempting to make some tries I can show you a short passage of what's gonna be the complete song lml!

The recording of this video was a totally different experience for me, just the location it's something out of my comfort zone, haha! But I wanted to include these shots just like that, because of what DREAMING LIGHT means to me. Thanks so much to Rafael Nunez for the direction, recording and edition of this video.. not only this time, but for all the videos since the beginning of this journey! I hope you all like the result, have an excellent week :)

IC Studio Diary 14 | Adelanto del Cover de Promises (Cranberries)

Luego de algo más de un mes a mil con las grabaciones, el trabajo y proyectos alternos, por fin me doy el tiempo para publicar un adelanto más de cómo va quedando mi disco "Influences & Connections Vol. 1". Esta vez se trata de mi versión de la canción Promises (Bury the Hatchet, 1999) de la banda irlandesa de rock alternativo The Cranberries. 

Para este minivideoclip quisimos hacer algo distinto a lo que ya habíamos hecho en los videos de adelanto anteriores. Quise darle un toque más personal y filmarlo en unas locaciones que me recuerdan mucho mi niñez. 

Esta versión es distinta a la original, pero siento que respeta la esencia con la que fue compuesta. En particular, no me emociona mucho la idea de copiar una voz como la de Dolores O'Riordan. No porque sea imposible de imitar, sino porque es algo único que tiene ella. Es su forma y sólo ella la puede cantar así. Es su firma sonora, su particularidad como cantante y eso me encanta. 

Lo que hice fue amoldar un poco la canción a mi estilo de cantar, experimentando aquí y allá. Es todo un proceso de aprendizaje esto de dejar de cantar al estilo lírico y comenzar a usar o descubrir mi voz natural. Veremos cómo queda en el resultado final, pero aquí les dejo una vista del avance.
