HELL BAR de Barranco (Av. Bolognesi #326, Barranco | Lima - Perú. Referencia: Frente a la Estación del Metropolitano) junto a la banda HIBRIDA y como cierre tributo a los maestros del heavy clásico en inglés Dio, Iron Maiden, Ozzy Osbourne, Mötley Crue, Queensryche y más por la banda UNDERCOVER.
Tocaré un adelanto de lo que se viene en mi disco "Influences & Connections Vol. 1" y definitivamente parte del setlist serán canciones de Sinergy, Kamelot, Dark Tranquillity, Nightwish, After Forever, etc. Pueden ver todos los videos adelanto de las canciones incluidas en mi disco en mi Canal Oficial de Youtube! Hoy de todas maneras sigue en pie el concierto de Atypical Notes (desde Trujillo) + Tributo a Dream Theater, ojalá todos puedan ir a verlos!
Pido disculpas a todos por este aviso de último minuto, pero lamentablemente cuando es un tema de salud poco se puede hacer al respecto. Espero recuperarme muy pronto y pactar una nueva fecha en vivo lo antes posible!

----------------------------------------------------------------------- ESPAÑOL: Este viernes 15 de Junio en el Hell Bar de Barranco (Bolognesi 326, frente a la estación del Metropolitano) tocaré en vivo junto a mi banda algunas canciones que están incluidas en mi 1er album de estudio titulado "Influences & Connections Vol. I". Seremos banda soporte de Atypical Notes, banda trujillana de metal progresivo y al final de la noche, y también habrá un tributo a Dream Theater. La entrada en la puerta está S/. 10.00 y viene con un trago incluido.
Este show es el segundo en la lista de conciertos de calentamiento que estoy realizando antes de la presentación oficial del disco, en dónde tocaremos los 15 tracks de corrido. Se que la salida del album ha tomado más de lo previsto, pero prefiero dejar de lado fechas autoimpuestas, tener paciencia y lanzarlo tal cual lo hemos venido ideando desde el año pasado!
Estuve ausente este último mes y medio, me enfermé como nunca antes por el cambio de clima aquí en Lima, aparte el ser alérgica no me ayuda nada! ENGLISH: On Friday June 15th at Hell Bar (Bolognesi 326, in front of Metropolitano Station) I´ll play live along with my band some songs that will be included on my 1st studio album entitled ¨Influences & Connections Vol. I¨. We´ll be the support act of the progressive metal band from Trujillo Atypical Notes. There will be covers of Dream Theater as well! Tickets at the door for S/. 10.00 - free drink included.
This is the second gig on the list of warm-up shows I will be doing before the official presentation of the album, where we´ll play the 15 tracks. I know that the album has taken a lot more time than planned, but I really prefer to ignore the self-imposed release date, have patience and release it just as I imagine it since the beginning!
I was absent for the last month and a half, because I was sick due to the climatic change here in Lima and being allergic doesn´t help me at all! ESPAÑOL: Con este post culmina la etapa de la publicación de los videos adelanto de los covers que grabé para incluirlos en mi disco INFLUENCES & CONNECTIONS VOL. 1. Ha sido un arduo trabajo, prácticamente todo el 2011 nos dedicamos exclusivamente a la pre-producción, grabación y promoción de los 14 covers + mi canción propia y la verdad es que ha sido una experiencia totalmente gratificante... he aprendido muchísimo!
Viendo en retrospectiva, me da risa el leer posts antigüos cuando recién
comenzaba a hablar acerca de mis avances en la música, mis ideas, las
cosas que me gustaban (como el libro de cocina metalera de la cantante
de Cauchemar!) y los momentos de malhumor también. El hecho de poder
volcar mis pensamientos aquí ha sido de muchísima ayuda para mantenerme
cuerda y seguir esforzándome cada vez más. Ahora que ya terminé de
grabar el disco y estamos luchando por terminar con la fase de
post-producción lo antes posible, he pasado a ensayar con la banda y a
retomar los escenarios... algo que anhelaba hacía tiempo!
Hoy la etapa de videos adelanto de covers a su fin con la presentación de mi versión de CANDLELIGHT FANTASIA(DIVINE WINGS OF TRAGEDY, 1997) original de la banda de metal progresivo norteamericana SYMPHONY X.
Fue bastante complicada adaptar tremenda canción a una versión para mi
registro vocal, pero la verdad es que no podía dejar de lado esta obra
maestra compuesta por los maestros Michael Romeo, Michael Pinnella (música) y Thomas Miller (letra).
Espero les guste! Pronto revelaré el título de mi canción propia y posiblemente pueda grabar un videoclip de la misma, justamente estoy en conversaciones para decidir si se podrá lograr, ojalá que sí. Estoy planeando realizar shows tanto eléctricos como acústicos, a penas tenga las fechas fijas y los locales, lo anunciaré con flyer oficial en mano. ENGLISH: With this last post I end the phase of publishing video teasers of the covers I recorded to include on my upcoming album as a solo artist INFLUENCES & CONNECTIONS VOL. 1. It's been such a hard work that practically lasted all 2011, dedicating ourselves exclusively on the pre-production, recording and promotion of the 14 covers + 1 original song. It has been an awesome experience... I've learned a lot!
Going back in time, I grin each time I read some of my old posts, when I started talking about my progress on music, my ideas and the stuff I like (e.g. the Heavy Metal Cookbook by the singer of Cauchemar!) and also my moments why fuming about something. The fact that I could write down here how I felt at the time was a tremendous help for me to stay focused and keep on working harder each time. Now that I've finished recording the whole album, we're putting all our efforts in finishing the post-production phase as soon as possible. I've returned to rehearse with the band and also play live... something I was longing for so long!
Today the video teaser publishing stage has come to an end with the presentation of my version of CANDLELIGHT FANTASIA(DIVINE WINGS OF TRAGEDY, 1997) by the northamerican progressive metal band SYMPHONY X. It was very complicated for us to adapt such a kick ass song to a customized version for my vocal range, but the truth is that I couldn't just put aside this masterpiece originally written by the masters Michael Romeo, Michael Pinnella (music) y Thomas Miller (lyrics).
I hope you all enjoy it! Soon I'll be able to reveal the title of my original song and luckily I would be able to record an official video. I'm also planing on playing some electric and acoustic live shows and I will be announcing them as soon as I have the fix dates and places, along with the official flyers. ESPANIOL: Una experiencia muy gratificante! Finalmente pude tocar en vivo algunas canciones de mi disco "Influences & Connections Vol. 1", luego de haber pasado por un largo proceso de pre-producción y grabación del álbum prácticamente todo el 2011. Sé que muchos de ustedes me han dicho que mantenga la calma, con paciencia las cosas salen mejor y es cierto, pero qué bien se siente el por fin presentar una muestra más real del esfuerzo que hemos venido haciendo a través del tiempo. Gracias a todos por ser parte de esto \m/
La sorpresa que quería darle a los que asistieron a este concierto fue una muestra del avance del arte de la portada de mi disco, la cuál viene siendo realizada por el artista nacional Zemog. La fotografía es de José Cuadros. El álbum vendrá en formato digipack y contiene otras artes que serán parte de la contraportada, el interior y el booklet. La muestra que di es del arte de la portada a un 50%, ya pronto podrán verla en versión física!
No tuvimos la oportunidad de grabar en HD la presentación, pero el blog de música peruana PeruEnReview hizo una resenia del concierto y subió a su Canal de Youtube un video por cada canción del setlist. Gracias al staff por difundirlo, pueden ver la nota completa en este link.
Los músicos que me acompaniaron en vivo fueron Américo Yrupailla - Guitarra, Omar Cusihuamán - Guitarra, Pepe Gazzo - Bajo, Daniel Ybárcena - Batería y Rafael Nunez subió al escenario para hacer un dueto en Transitory. Gracias a los de Disturbia Magazine por la invitación y aJim Cueva de la revista Rock & Metal World por cubrir el concierto, en el mes de abril publicarán una entrevista que me hicieron.

After a long pre-production and recording time that lasted almost all 2011 I finally managed to play live some of the songs that will be included on my 1st album "Influences & Connections Vol. 1". I know some of you tell me constantly to stay calm, that with patience things turn out better and it's true, but it's such a great feeling to present something more tangible. Thanks to everyone that has been part of this \m/
I wanted to give all the people who showed up at the concert a surprise, which consisted in revealing a preview of the cover art of my album, which is currently being created by the national artist Zemog. Photography by José Cuadros. My album will be released in a digipack format that also contain various arts on the interior and booklet. The preview I showed was 50% finished, you'll see the outcome in the physical form very soon!

ESPANIOL: Les presento el nuevo video adelanto de mi versión de la canción VICTORY (CREATURE OF THE NIGHT) de la banda de power metal francés HEAVENLY. La versión completa estará incluida en mi primer disco como solista titulado INFLUENCES & CONNECTIONS VOL. 1, el cuál está muy próximo a salir a la luz. Para algunos que me conocen personalmente de tiempo, coincidirán conmigo que era prácticamente imposible que no incluyera una canción del excelente disco conceptual DUST TO DUST del año 2004. Desde el primer día en que escuché EVIL, LUST FOR LIFE, FIGHT FOR DELIVERANCE y obviamente VICTORY, esta banda logró obsesionarme. Para mi, todo el disco es una joya del power metal, todos los integrantes le inyectan una dosis de adrenalina muy peculiar y... BEN SOTTO.. qué voz!
Definitivamente el lograr grabar esta versión no fue cosa fácil. Agradezco a ADOLFO y a PEPE GAZZO por la ardua tarea de escuchar esta canción 344 mil millones de veces para poder reproducir las notas de cada instrumento, de cada armonía vocal! Y claro que no podría haberlo logrado sin la oportuna intervención de RAFAEL NUNEZ en las voces masculinas, gracias a todos :)
Aprovecho para recordarles que presentaré un adelanto de lo que se viene en mi primera producción en el concierto de Aniversario del portal alternativo DISTURBIA MAGAZINE este 21 de Marzo a las 10:00pm en LA NOCHE DE BARRANCO. ENGLISH: I present you the new video teaser for my version of VICTORY (CREATURE OF THE NIGHT) from the french power metal band HEAVENLY. The complete version of this song will be included on my first full-lenght album as a solo artist entitled INFLUENCES & CONNECTIONS VOL. 1, which is soon to be launched. For some of you that know me for some time, you'll agree that it was almost impossible for me not to include a song from the amazing conceptual album DUST TO DUST, released in 2004. Since the first time I listened to songs like EVIL, LUST FOR LIFE, FIGHT FOR DELIVERANCE and of course VICTORY, this band managed to make me obsessed about them. For me, this is a true diamond in the rough, every band member brings such an adrenaline boost to the songs and.. BEN SOTTO.. what a voice!
Recording this track was definitely not an easy task. I'm very grateful to ADOLFO and PEPE GAZZO for the hard work of listening to this song 344 thousand million times just to reproduce every instrument's notes, every vocal harmony! And of course, I wouldn't have achieved this without the support of RAFAEL NUNEZ on the men's vocals, thanks big time all of you :)

ESPAÑOL: Ya voy llegando al final de esta etapa, la de publicar videos adelanto de las canciones que han sido grabadas para incluirlas en mi disco debut como solista titulado INFLUENCES & CONNECTIONS VOL. 1. En esta ocasión quería mostrarles un extracto de lo que será mi versión completa de DREAMING LIGHT, original de la banda inglesa de rock progresivo ANATHEMA.
Como muchos de ustedes saben, ANATHEMA comenzó haciendo doom/death metal con su primer EP "ILLIAD OF WOES", pero a lo largo del tiempo, su género musical cambió hasta ahora ser un rock atmosférico/progresivo tal cuál lo escuchamos en su último disco "WE'RE HERE BECAUSE WE'RE HERE", del cuál proviene DREAMING LIGHT. Debo de reconocer que a penas escuché este disco, no podía dejar de pensar en el y en todos los temas que me venían a la mente al escuchar estas canciones. Es impresionante cómo la música puede hacer que reflexiones profundamente acerca de lo que has pasado, lo que estás viviendo y lo que quisieras experimentar.
Yo pensaba que el grabar las voces limpias y las armonías de esta canción me iba a ser relativamente fácil, teniendo en cuenta de que es una balada y que las notas en sí no son ni muy graves ni muy agudas como para pensar que me darían un dolor de cabeza poder llegar a ellas, pero me di con la sorpresa de que este ha sido uno de los tracks más complicados en lograr! Transmitir lo que uno siente es aún más difícil que emitir una sola nota de la manera correcta. Felizmente, y después de algunos intentos, puedo mostrarles un pasaje de lo que será la canción completa lml!
La grabación de este video fue algo totalmente distinto para mi, el sólo hecho de ir a esta locación ya es algo fuera de lo común, jajaja! Quise incluir tomas así, justamente por el trasfondo de lo que significa DREAMING LIGHT para mi. Gracias a Rafael Nunez por la dirección, grabación y edición del video, no sólo

ENGLISH: I'm reaching the end of this first stage of publishing the video teasers of the songs that will be included on my debut album as a solo artist entitled "INFLUENCES & CONNECTIONS VOL. 1". This time I would like to show you a sneak peak on what's gonna be my complete version of DREAMING LIGHT by the english progressive rock band ANATHEMA.
Like many of you already know, ANATHEMA started with a doom/death metal sound with their first EP "ILLIAD OF WOES", but throughout their music career, they changed their musical genre to a atmospheric/progressive rock, just like their last album "WE'RE HERE BECAUSE WE'RE HERE" sounds like, from which DREAMING LIGHT belongs. I have to admit thar as soon as I listened to these songs, I just couldn't stop thinking about them and all the memories and feelings I recalled while listening to this masterpiece. It's amazing how music makes you reflect on what you've been through, what your're experimenting right now and what you would like to live in the future.
I thought that recording the clean vocals and harmonizations would be relatively easy, having in mind that it's a ballad and that the tone is not too low, nor too high for me, but then I realised that this track has been one of the most complicated ones for me to complete recording! Transmit what one's feeling is much harder than reaching a perfect pitch. Luckily and after attempting to make some tries I can show you a short passage of what's gonna be the complete song lml!
The recording of this video was a totally different experience for me, just the location it's something out of my comfort zone, haha! But I wanted to include these shots just like that, because of what DREAMING LIGHT means to me. Thanks so much to Rafael Nunez for the direction, recording and edition of this video.. not only this time, but for all the videos since the beginning of this journey! I hope you all like the result, have an excellent week :)
ESPAÑOL Les presento un nuevo video adelanto de mi versión de SHE IS MY SIN original de la banda finlandesa de metal sinfónico NIGHTWISH. Esta canción pertenece al álbum WISHMASTER lanzado en el 2000 vía Spinefarm Records. No puedo describir lo que siento al escuchar las canciones de este disco, sin duda es mi favorito de la banda y fue el primer disco completo de metal que escuché en mi vida! Es por esto que le tengo tanto cariño a NIGHTWISH con la voz de TARJA TURUNEN, ya que esta etapa me inspiró a seguir un camino que yo creía inexistente! Es todo un honor poder interpretar esta canción y recuerdo cuando pude hablar un ratito con ella cuando vino a Lima en el 2011, fue una experiencia única!
Definitivamente SHE IS MY SIN es una de las canciones qué más se apega al género POWER METAL dentro de este álbum junto a WISHMASTER. Me encanta, porque todo el disco en general hace referencia a temas fantasiosos y algunos bastante conocidos como "The Lord of The Rings" y "Dragonlance", pero no deja de ser variado incluyendo baladas y canciones relacionadas a las películas animadas de Disney como FANTASMIC.
Espero que les guste mi versión de este tema, la versión completa estará incluida en mi álbum INFLUENCES & CONNECTIONS VOL. 1 el cuál estoy a muy poco de lanzar! Este primer material está pensado en formato Digipack, a penas pueda confirmar la fecha exacta del lanzamiento y fechas en vivo, lo publicaré en mi PAGINA OFICIAL DE FACEBOOK :D

ENGLISH: This is a new video teaser of my version of SHE IS MY SIN by the finish symphonic metal band NIGHTWISH. This track is included on their 3rd studio album entitled WISHMASTER,launched in 2000 via Spinefarm Records. I can't describe what I feel while listening to the songs of this album, there's no doubt it's my band's favourite and the first metal album I listened from the start to the end! This is why I love so much NIGHTWISH with TARJA TURUNEN on vocals, this era
inspired me to follow a path I believed non-existent! It's an honor for me to
sing this song in particular and this reminds me when she played with her band
in Lima and I had the chance to talk to her for a few minutes, it was an unique
experience :)
Definitely SHE IS MY SIN is one of the album's songs that its sound could be catalogued as power metal, along with WISHMASTER. I love this album, because in general the lyrics relate to fantasy themes like "The Lord of The Rings" and "Dragonlance", but it doesn't mean that this album lacks variety. It also includes ballads and songs related to Disney's animated movies like the song FANTASMIC.
I really hope you like my version of this track, the whole song will be included on my album INFLUENCES & CONNECTIONS VOL. 1, which is due to be released very soon! This first album will be launched in a Digipack format, as soon as I can confirm the release date and the live gigs I'll publish it on my OFFICIAL FACEBOOK PAGE :D

Español: Recuerdo haber escuchado por primera vez el álbum Projector (1999) de la banda sueca de death metal melódico Dark Tranquillity cuando yo no tenía mucha experiencia escuchando bandas de este sub-género o de death metal en general. En ese entonces, no me acostumbraba a escuchar los guturales tan crudos y mis oídos aún no habían sido educados para comprender las increíbles melodías de guitarras y bajo que podía encontrar en canciones de bandas de metal agresivo. Ni qué decir que en ese entonces, nunca había escuchado que una batería pudiera alcanzar los niveles de complejidad y velocidad que podemos encontrar en el brutal death metal.
Fue realmente emocionante comenzar a descubrir este nuevo mundo con un álbum que se caracterizó por haber sido el más tranquilo, melancólico y elegante de esta gran banda. Me quedé muy sorprendida al escuchar Auctioned, la primera canción que escuché de ellos. Era tan hermosa, la voz de Michael Stanne era perfecta, grave, de barítono, con mucho sentimiento y no podía creer que la misma persona tuviera un total opuesto en canciones como Nether Novas o Therein. Fue así que poco a poco fui interesándome por los guturales, por escuchar otros discos de Dark Tranquillity en dónde el sonido de Gothenburg era aún más predominante. Se podría decir que esta banda fue mi puente desde el Metal Gótico/Sinfónico +P ower Metal al Death Metal Melódico.
Les dejo entonces el adelanto de mi versión de Auctioned, la canción completa estará incluida en mi álbum "Influences & Connections Vol. 1" que estará próximo a salir a la luz. English: I remember listening for the first time the Projector (1999) album by the swedish metal band Dark Tranquillity when I didn't have much experience listening to melodic death metal bands or death metal bands in general. In those days I wasn't used to listen to raw growls and my ears weren't prepared to understand the incredible guitar and bass melodies that could be found on aggressive metal bands. And of course, I have to say that I had never listened to drums reaching such complex and high velocity levels that the ones that can be found on brutal death metal bands.
It was really special to start discovering this new world with an album that was known for being the most calmed down, melancholic and elegant that this band ever released. I was astonished as I listened to Auctioned, the first song by Dark Tranquillity I was introduced to. It was so beautiful, Michael Stanne's voice was so perfect, deep, baritone styled, so emotional.. and I just couldn't believe that the one I was listening to at that specific moment, could have a totally opposite self on songs like Nether Novas or Therein. This way I started getting involved in growls, just by listening to the rest of Dark Tranquillity albums at the time, in which the Gothenburg Sound was even more predominant. I could say that Dark Tranquillity acted like my bridge from Gothic/Symphonic Metal+ Power Metal to Melodic Death Metal.
Let me introduce you a short sneak peak of my own version of Auctioned, the complete track will be included on my first album "Influences & Connections Vol. 1", which is soon to be released. I'm working hard to try and bring forward the release date and album presentation gig party, I have to put more effort on that! Español: Con la noticia de la reunión de BLACK SABBATH y sabiendo que hay una buena probabilidad de ver en vivo a OPETH en marzo del 2012 rondando por mi mente, me animo a escribir este post para presentar el nuevo video adelanto de un excelente tema de power metal finlandés original de la banda SINERGY. Se trata de la canción BEWARE THE HEAVENS del disco homónimo lanzado en el año 1999 vía Nuclear Blast.
SINERGY es un excelente exponente del power metal con voz femenina, en dónde Kimberly "Kim"Goss (ex-Dimmu Borgir) participa como cantante y tecladista junto a los guitarristas Alexi Laiho (Children of Bodom) y Jesper Störmblad (In Flames) + el bajista Sharlee D'Angelo (Arch Enemy) y el baterista Ronny Milianowicz (Hammerfall, Primal Fear, etc).
Me incliné en hacer mi propia versión de BEWARE THE HEAVENS para incluirla en mi disco "Influences & Connections Vol. 1", porque me encanta la letra y la garra que le pone Kim a la canción. Hay pocas oportunidades de escuchar canciones como las que nos trae SINERGY, qué pena que luego del "Suicide by my Side" (2002) no lograran sacar hasta la fecha un nuevo álbum. Tenía entendido que sacarían un nuevo disco llamado "Sins of the Past", pero lamentablemente no hemos sabido nada de ellos.
De hecho me gusta mucho más el trabajo de Alexi y Jesper en este disco, que lo que hacen actualmente, tanto en Children of Bodom como en In Flames. De lejos me quedo con los primeros discos de COB desde el Something Wild hasta el Follow the Reaper y con los de In Flames desde el Lunar Strain hasta el Clayman.
De todas formas esta canción no se me hizo tan complicada de grabar como otras del mismo estilo, quizás porque en FOREVER tenía que sacarme de la mente la voz de Khan, en cambio en esta canción puedo arrimarme un poco al feeling que le saca Kim, pero metiéndole un poco de mi estilo. English: Thinking about BLACK SABBATH's reunion and knowing that there's a good chance to see OPETH live on march 2012 I would like to present a new sneak peek of an excellent song from the finnish power metal band SINERGY. This time I'm doing BEWARE THE HEAVENS from the homonimus album released on 1999 via Nuclear Blast.

I wanted to make my own version of BEWARE THE HEAVENS to include it on my album "Influences & Connections Vol. 1", because I love the lyrics and the power Kim puts on this track. There are few oportunities to listen to songs like the ones SINERGY composed and it's really sad that after the album "Suicide by my Side"(2002) they haven't achieved to release a new one. I was told that they would release a new album entitled "Sins of the Past", but we haven't heard from them since then.
In fact I prefer Alexi's and Jesper's work on this album, than what they're currently doing in Children of Bodom and In Flames respectively. By far I'm more into old COB albums like from the Something Wild to Follow The Reaper and from In Flames until Clayman.
Anyways, I think the recording of this song was less complicated than doing FOREVER, due to the fact that I had to anulate Khan's deep voice on that one. Recording BEWARE THE HEAVENS was easier, because I tend to sing better female dramatic vocal techniques than soft ones. I also tried to add my personal style on this performance :) Well, it's taking a bit too long here, this is BEWARE THE HEAVENS and I really hope you like it, comment and rate it on my Official Youtube Channel and also on my Official Facebook Page!

Español: En esta entrada quiero mostrarles el nuevo avance de las grabaciones de mi disco INFLUENCES & CONNECTIONS VOL. 1. Se trata de una canción muy hermosa, es TIDES OF TIME del último álbum DESIGN YOUR UNIVERSE (2010) de la banda holandesa de metal sinfónico EPICA.
Para serles sincera, este track se me hizo bastante complicado de grabar. Si bien yo ya he realizado Tributos en vivo a EPICA con mi banda de melodic death metal HYPNOX, es muy diferente tomar una balada suave y grabarla. Ya me di cuenta que he estado malacostumbrada a cantar bastante alto, pensando que teniendo potencia podría cantar metal, pero se necesita más que eso. Esa versatilidad es tan difícil de encontrar... De todas formas me encantó aprender un poco más y tratar de ponerle más dulzura a mis líneas vocales.. porque no hay duda de que Simone Simons tiene una voz hermosísima!
Ya con esta canción voy subiendo a mi Canal Oficial de Youtube un total de 7 videos, me esperan aún 7 videos más de covers y 1 video de mi canción propia! English: On this post I want to show you the new sneak peak on the recordigns of my album INFLUENCES & CONNECTIONS VOL. 1. This time I'm talking about TIDES OF TIME from the last album DESIGN YOUR UNIVERSE (2010) of the dutch symphonic metal band EPICA.
To be truly honest with you, I found this track specially complicated to record. It's true that I did EPICA Live Tributes with my melodic death metal band HYPNOX before, but it's completely different to sing a soft ballad like this one and record it. I realized that I've been used to sing loud, thinking that having voice power was perfect to sing metal music, but that it's not just that. The versatility is really hard to find... Well, either way I loved to learn more knowing how to put more softness to my vocal lines, 'cause there's no doubt that Simone Simons has an unique amazing & sweet voice!
Counting this new video teaser, I'm summing 7 videos uploaded on my Official Youtube Channel and there are 7 more covers to upload + 1 original song! Anyway, hope you all like my version of TIDES OF TIME, cheers and thanks a lot to all of you for the support and kind words :D!

Español: Después de algunas semanas puedo subir un nuevo VIDEO TEASER acerca de los tracks que vengo grabando para mi disco "INFLUENCES & CONNECTIONS VOL. 1". Esta vez se trata de una canción que escuchaba hasta el cansancio (en general todo el "MTV Unplugged" y el "Dirt") cuando tenía como 12 o 13 años, cuando Polvos Rosados todavía tenía el piso de tierra. La canción que escogí es una versión acústica de ALICE IN CHAINS, impresionante banda grunge de Seattle formada en el '87. Definitivamente no tengo una voz como la del gran Layne Staley, pero creo que lo que más importa es la sinceridad con la que uno puede cantar esta canción. La letra, melodía vocal, guitarra, batería, bajo, absolutamente todos los componentes que hacen esta canción son precisos para poder transmitir lo que ALICE sentía. Bueno, dejémonos de rodeos, espero que les guste!
English: After a few weeks I can upload again a new VIDEO TEASER regarding the tracks I've been recording for my "INFLUENCES & CONNECTIONS VOL. 1" album. This time, I recorded an acoustic version song I've listened to thousands of times that belongs to ALICE IN CHAINS, a Seattle grunge band formed in '87. Definitely I do not have a voice like the greatLayne Staley, but I think that what matters the most is the honesty you have when you sing this song. The lyrics, vocal melody, guitars, drums, bass.. every component are needed to transmit what ALICE felt. Well, enough chat, I hope you all like it!
Al fin nos dio el tiempo de editar un nuevo video y poder subirlo a Youtube! En esta ocasión es un pequenio adelanto de la segunda canción que grabé en Pito Studios de mi album de versiones titulado INFLUENCES & CONNECTIONS VOL. 1. Se trata de la canción MY LAST BREATH de la banda estadounidense de gothic rock EVANESCENCE. Si bien esta canción tiene que ver poco con el estilo de música que compongo, no hay duda de que el disco FALLEN (2003) fue un álbum de transición para mi. Yo venía de escuchar Rock Alternativo, Hard Rock, Punk, R&B hasta Pop, pero cuando escuché este disco, dejé mucho de las bandas a las que recurría, para abrir mi mente a sonidos un poco más densos. Escribí acerca de esto en un post anterior, si quieren darle una chequeada, pueden bajar en la página principal de la web para poder leerlo.
Me encantó grabar esta canción, porque recuerdo cuando recién la escuché en el 2003 y me reía mucho de la forma en la que trataba de cantarla. Recuerdo que trataba de hacer primero una voz a lo Dolores O'Riordan de The Cranberries, luego probaba con la de Andrea Corr de The Corrs y al final cuando la cosa no progresaba, terminaba haciéndola como la de Laura Pausini, jajaja! Ya con el tiempo, en el 2004 cuando escuché Nightwish y practiqué mucho con su discografía, logre posicionar mejor mi voz y probar de nuevo. Pero definitivamente, fue una banda de transición en aquel entonces y mereció ser uno de los 15 tracks que incluiré en INFLUENCES & CONNECTIONS VOL. 1!

Finally we found the time to edit a new video and post it on Youtube! This time, we present a short sneak peak about the second song I recorded at Pito Studios for my album INFLUENCES & CONNECTIONS VOL. 1. The cover song is MY LAST BREATH from the northamerican gothic rock band EVANESCENCE. It's important to point out that this music genre has nothing to do with the music I actually compose and sing, there's no doubt that the FALLEN (2003) album, was a transition one for my music career. I used to listen to Alternative Rock, Hard Rock, Punk, R&B and also Pop, but when this album reached my hands, I left aside much bands I was likely to listen to, so I could open my mind to more dense sounds. I wrote about this on a previous post, if you want to check it out, just scroll down and you'll find it.
I loved to record this song, 'cause it made me remember the first time I listenet to it in 2003 and I laughed so much about myself because of the way I tried to sing along. I recall when I tried to do it with a Dolores O'Riordan (The Cranberries) like voice, then I tried with an Andrea Corr (The Corrs) like voice and afterwards, as things didn't improve, with a Laura Pausini like voice, hahaha! As time passed by, in 2004 when I listened to Nightwish for the first time and practised a lot with their discography, I managed to positionate my voice better and I tried again. But definitely, it was a transition band at that time and that made this song one of the 15 tracks I'm gonna include on INFLUENCES & CONNECTIONS VOL. 1!
Buenas noticias! La 3era canción del disco "INFLUENCES & CONNECTIONS VOL. 1" ya está terminada @ Pito Studios! En esta ocasión, decidí incluir un tema de la banda holandesa de metal sinfónico EPICA. Lo que me gusta de esta banda, no es sólo el hecho de que sus composiciones instrumentales, melodías vocales y letras son excelentes, sino que se han puesto una camiseta más metalera en su último disco, muchísimo más rudo que todos sus trabajos anteriores.
Si bien yo comencé escuchando en el 2004 el PHANTOM AGONY (2003), no me cabe duda de que su último material, el DESIGN YOUR UNIVERSE (2010), tiene las influencias directas de dos miembros nuevos, Ariën Van Weesenbeek (batería) e Isaac Delahaye (guitarra), quienes vienen de una banda de death metal: GOD DETHRONED .
Por ende, su último disco tiene hartos toques death metal, lo cual me encanta! No sabía cuál de todas las canciones escoger, pero me decidí al analizar bien la letra de TIDES OF TIME, cuando tuve que presentarla en vivo en el TRIBUTO OFICIAL A EPICA que dimos en Noviembre del 2010 junto a mi banda de Melodic Death Metal HYPNOX. En ese momento sabía que esa canción debía de ser incluida en el disco solista :)
Luego de haber grabado la voz principal, las voces secundarias y jugar un poco con hacer voces para los coros, mi parte en esta canción ya quedó completa :) Lo que falta para que quede lista al 100% es agregar las voces masculinas al coro final de la canción y ya puede pasar a la etapa de mezcla.
Esta canción se me hizo un poco difícultoso de grabar, ya que la voz de Simone Simons es más delgada que la mía. Si bien ella es Mezzo-soprano, yo tengo un timbre algo más dramático y por ende los versos se me hacían algo más difíciles de interpretar. De todas formas, cuando se trata de cantar a mi estilo propio, cuidando siempre de no imitar a a la versión original, siempre salen cosas bien interesantes. El resultado nos gustó a todos y espero que también a ustedes lml!
Good News! I just finished recording the 3rd song for "INFLUENCES & CONNECTIONS VOL. 1" @ Pito Studios! In this occasion I decided to include a song from the dutch symphonic metal band EPICA. What I like about this band it's not only the fact that their music and lyrics compositions & arrangements are awesome, but also that since their last album they have a more aggresive sound.
It's true that I started listening to these guys in 2004, with their debut album THE PHANTOM AGONY (2003), but it seems preety obvious to me, that their newest members Ariën Van Weesenbeek (drums) and Isaac Delahaye (guitar) are the ones behind this change in music style. This is mainly because of their death metal background (both of them played in GOD DETHRONED).
That's why their latest album DESIGN YOUR UNIVERSE (2010) has so many Death Metal elements (which I love)! I found very difficult to choose one song from this album, but then, after analyzing the lyrics when I had to sing this live at the 1st Official Peruvian Tribute to EPICA in November 2010 with my band HYPNOX, I decided to go with TIDES OF TIME.
After recording the main vocals, backing vocals and playing some tunes to match the chorus, my part on this song is completed :) What's left to do to complete it 100% is to add the male voices in the final chorus of the song, then it will pass to the next stage; the mix.
It was back then that I decided that I had to do my own version and include it in my solo album. I found kinda difficult to record due to Simone's mellow sound, she's a mezzo-soprano and I'm not, but I recon I have a more dramatic sound so that's why the softer verses where specially harder to sing. Either way I think that when it comes to sing with my own style (always trying not to mimic the original singer's voice) everything works out. We all liked the final results and I hope that you'll think the same lml!
Después de un tiempo vuelvo a postear acerca de la grabación de mi primer album "Influences & Connections Vol. 1". Y regreso con una buena noticia; terminé de grabar "My Last Breath" de la banda Evanescence, originaria de Arkansas - EE.UU. En su primer álbum "Fallen", lanzado en el 2003 por Wind-up Records aparece esta canción a la cuál le tengo mucha cariño, ya que fue la primera que escuché del disco que les valió un Grammy.
Hay muchos que saltarán de sus asientos diciendo: "Evanescence no es metal", "Evanescence es para emos" y frases derivadas de ese tipo, pero me gustaría aclarar algo primero. Efectivamente Evanescence NO es metal. Para mí, esta banda tiene elementos rock, pop, góticos (más que nada en letras y estética) y por ahí algo de nu-metal. Seamos sinceros, al nu-metal no se le considera metal dentro de los que escuchamos metal.
Lo que me encanta de Evanescence en este disco es lo que me hace sentir Amy Lee con su intención a la hora de cantar. Ella se da íntegra en el escenario y eso me parece algo bastante admirable. Es bien catártico cuando tomas el micrófono y das rienda suelta a lo que sientes sin pensar en que "estoy traicionando mi alma metal". A mi no me interesa encasillarme, en este álbum no sólo encontraran influencias mías dentro del metal, sino de R&B, Rock y hasta un estilo que colinda con los soundtracks de películas. Qué... cantar Lara Fabian no me hace ser suficientemente digna para hacer metal? Creo que el ser "true"conmigo misma es lo mejor que puedo hacer. Ser honesta con mis gustos e influencias a lo largo de los años es mejor que aparecer como una persona que SÓLO escucha/escuchaba Metal en su vida.
Dejando ese tema de lado, fue genial poder grabar "My Last Breath" y poder agregarle la dosis exacta de elementos metal a una canción que originalmente no tenía esa intención. Ésta es mi idea principal para todas las canciónes del "Influences & Connections" en general, versionarlas pero a mi propio estilo, tanto vocalmente como instrumentalmente.. y creo que poco a poco está tomando la forma deseada :)
Por el momento las grabaciones se han paralizado debido a que Pito Studios ha entrado en remodelación, pero de todas maneras retomamos el ritmo de grabación a penas terminen las elecciones, estas fechas siempre son un caos a cada minuto que pasa. No subo el video de la canción aún, porque quiero agregarle unas backing vocals, pero espero poder publicarlo lo antes posible ;)
Retomando la vena musical de la web, quisiera mostrarles un adelanto de lo que se vendrá en mi primer disco como solista titulado "Influences & Connections", producido por Pito Studios. Hace algunas semanas publiqué un post acerca de la grabación de la canción "Ever Dream" de la banda finlandesa de gothic / symphonic metal Nightwish, en el cuál anunciaba que subiría un video teaser, un pequenio adelanto de las grabaciones de esta canción... pues.. al fin pude subirlo a mi canal en Youtube =)
Mi idea detrás de mi versión de esta mítica canción de la era Tarja Turunen en Nightwish era mantener las bases, pero sazonarla con una dosis necesaria de identidad. Aún faltan detalles que ultimar para la versión final (mezcla y master), pero creo que Pito me deja mostrar esta versión sin asesinarme antes, jajaja!
Y no podía esperar más tiempo en subirla, porque Tarja se viene a Lima en menos de un mes! Se imaginarán mi histeria in crescendo a cada día que pasa... de lo más natural supongo... hasta le mandé un mensaje personalizado para la edición del libro que le iban a entregar los fans! Ojalá que lo haya leído :$
